Biography
Man Wai is currently completing her final year at the York University and Sheridan College Joint Program in Design. Man Wai believes that in the creation of every project, a story is generated which consequently affects the design. She feels that design is more than what you see or feel; it is a collection of stories that defines who you are, your view on the world, how you communicate your thoughts, and in turn, how people interpret them.
Description
Embracing an environmental and functional approach, is a tissue box formed from a single sheet of paper without glue, making it reusable, collapsible and easily transportable. A locking mechanism holds the container together at both ends. Also unique are the geometric folds, which provide the package’s strength and infrastructure.
Communication objective
The project aims to examine the conceptualization and the creation of effective container structures. In understanding the role of the package design in the environment, the greater challenge was to construct the container from a single piece of paper without using adhesive. The result was a form that uses only folds to create its structure, making for an interactive and tactile package design. In order for a package's design to be successful, it is needs to stand out visually and functionally, among a cluttered retail environment. The tissue box embodies a "no brand" and minimalistic approach, eliminating visual clutter and wastefulness.
Tools used
The entire structure of the package was created with Adobe Illustrator. Later, the design was printed from Adobe Acrobat, then constructed entirely by hand.
